Trump Media Ends Crypto.com Deals, Pursues TAE Merger
TMTG will end agreements with Crypto.com and Yorkville, abandoning a planned $6.4 billion CRO token treasury and Truth Predict integration to pursue a merger with energy firm TAE.
Trump Media and Technology Group announced it will end agreements with Crypto.com and Yorkville Acquisition Corp and will pursue a merger with energy company TAE. The company abandoned plans for a $6.4 billion CRO token treasury and the planned integration of prediction markets into Truth Social.
The three firms said on Friday that “prevailing market conditions and shifting business and stakeholder priorities” made the CRO treasury arrangement impractical. Under the original plan, TMTG would have purchased billions of dollars of Crypto.com’s CRO tokens to create a $6.4 billion treasury intended to fund crypto rewards for Truth Social users.
TMTG announced the CRO purchase in September 2025 and disclosed plans for a prediction-market feature, called Truth Predict, in October 2025. The prediction markets were intended to let users place bets on outcomes and potentially earn crypto rewards within the Truth Social ecosystem.
TMTG’s interim chief executive, Kevin McGurn, described the decision as driven more by competitive dynamics than by regulatory concerns related to the administration and the crypto industry. He said the company is withdrawing from the Crypto.com agreements to focus on the proposed business combination with TAE.
The companies provided no timeline for completing the TAE merger. Statements from TMTG, Crypto.com and Yorkville did not cite regulatory action as the reason for ending the agreements.
Members of Congress and policy observers have raised questions about potential conflicts between the Trump family’s business interests and digital asset investments. Some lawmakers have pushed for ethics provisions in proposed crypto market legislation intended to limit conflicts of interest for public officials.
The decision cancels a large-scale token purchase that had been central to TMTG’s plan to add crypto features to Truth Social. TMTG indicated it will continue to explore other ways to develop the platform.
