Tether, the world’s largest digital asset company, has released its open-source Wallet Development Kit (WDK) – a modular software framework that allows developers, organizations, and even AI systems to build self-custodial wallets capable of running across multiple blockchains and platforms.
Unveiled on October 17, 2025, the toolkit allows developers to create wallets across Bitcoin, the Lightning Network, Ethereum, Arbitrum, Polygon, TON, Solana, and more. It supports DeFi integration, payments, lending, swaps, and cross-chain transfers. Developers can also leverage customizable interfaces, secure key management tools, and real-time balance tracking to simplify complex wallet functions.
According to Tether, the WDK is designed to operate on any system – from embedded IoT devices and smartphones to desktop applications and autonomous machines. It provides an open foundation for developers and institutions to deploy wallets independently without relying on centralized providers.
Self-custodial wallets are the cornerstone of a free and resilient monetary infrastructure. We imagine a world where humans, autonomous machines, and AI agents have the freedom to control their own finances. WDK by Tether is a modular, independent, and infinitely scalable framework that enables trillions of wallets,

Tether said the framework includes its USDT₀ network-scaling technology to improve liquidity and facilitate seamless bridging between networks. The modular architecture handles technical complexities such as gas fees, network switching, and bridge management. This ensures users enjoy a streamlined experience while retaining full custody of their assets.

Tether’s WDK is open source and free, allowing developers to work across multiple ecosystems without platform restrictions. The company says the codebase is available for public audit and contributions, making it suitable for institutional, retail, large-scale organizational use.

GNcrypto previously reported that Tether’s Wallet Development Kit had been in final testing earlier this week, with engineers finalizing documentation and onboarding materials for developers before the public release. The official launch confirms those plans, expanding on earlier previews that outlined WDK’s role in powering Tether’s upcoming self-custodial products and third-party integrations. The company has now made the full toolkit and source code publicly accessible through wallet.tether.io, marking the completion of the rollout.
