Tether launches USA₮ federally regulated dollar stablecoin for the United States
Tether announced on 27 January 2026 that it has launched USA₮, a U.S.-regulated, dollar-backed stablecoin designed to operate under the federal stablecoin framework created by the GENIUS Act.
According to Tether, the token is issued by Anchorage Digital Bank, N.A. The company said USA₮ is intended for U.S. users and institutions, while its existing stablecoin USD₮ will continue to operate globally.
Tether said Cantor Fitzgerald will act as reserve custodian and preferred primary dealer for USA₮. It added that it is working with U.S.-regulated exchanges and banking partners to expand access, and that an initial rollout will include availability on Bybit, Crypto.com, Kraken, OKX and Moonpay.
The launch follows a prior announcement late in 2025 that outlined the token’s design and named former White House Crypto Council executive director Bo Hines as chief executive of Tether USA₮.
In the release, Tether said USA₮ is not legal tender and is not issued, backed, approved or guaranteed by the U.S. government. It also said the token is not covered by deposit insurance protections from the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation or other agencies, and that Tether Operations, S.A. de C.V. is not the issuer of USA₮.
