Paolo Ardoino: Wallet Development Kit to be released this week

Tether will release its Wallet Development Kit this week as fully open-source software, CEO Paolo Ardoino announced on X. The release includes starter wallets for iOS and Android to demonstrate how developers can build self-custodial digital asset wallets.
Ardoino said that the kit aims to support trillions of self-custodial wallets. The company will publish the complete WDK codebase along with example mobile apps showing the development process from start to finish.
The toolkit gives developers the infrastructure to add wallet capabilities to their apps without depending on external services. Users maintain control over their own assets rather than storing them with a third party.
According to Tether's documentation, the WDK uses a modular design that works across mobile and desktop platforms. The architecture is stateless, meaning it doesn't store user data on company servers. The kit provides unified blockchain access across different networks.
Tether designed the WDK for use cases beyond traditional wallets, including AI agents and IoT devices. The company structured the kit to let developers integrate wallet functionality into various types of applications.
Ardoino wrote on X that the release contains a Starter Wallet for both major mobile platforms. These example apps show developers the complete functionality available through the toolkit.
Tether first introduced the Wallet Development Kit as an open-source project in 2024. The company updated its public documentation through mid-2025. The announcement marks the full public release of the codebase with working mobile applications.
The WDK gives third-party developers access to the same wallet infrastructure Tether uses internally. Developers can modify and distribute the code under open-source licensing terms. The starter wallets provide a foundation that developers can customize for specific use cases or integrate into existing applications.
