SpaceXAI’s Grok would access work accounts to perform tasks

SpaceXAI recently disclosed a proposal to let its AI assistant Grok access users’ work accounts and perform tasks on their behalf. The company says the feature would run only after users grant permission for specific services.

Under the plan, Grok could connect to email, calendars, project-management tools and other work apps using user-approved access. Once connected, the assistant could draft and send email, schedule meetings, update task trackers, run database queries and interact with web interfaces to complete defined workflows.

The proposal describes that users would explicitly authorize each connection and set boundaries on what the assistant can do. SpaceXAI plans scoped access tokens, configurable limits, audit logs and activity histories so users and administrators can see actions taken while the assistant is authenticated.

SpaceXAI also proposes configurable templates and review steps that let users approve actions before Grok executes them, or permit fully autonomous operation for tasks the user or organization considers suitable.

The plan raises questions about security, privacy and liability. Persistent access to work accounts could expose sensitive data. Employers and IT teams may require multi-factor authentication, role-based access or separate service accounts to limit risk. Security professionals warn that automated access can increase the impact of errors or misuse and that human oversight will still be needed for many tasks.

SpaceXAI outlines security practices such as revocable tokens, central revocation, limits on data retention and tools for organizations to audit or block specific automated behaviors. The company is seeking feedback from developers and enterprises as it refines the feature set and security measures.

Grok was developed by xAI and is linked to Elon Musk’s technology ventures. It has been offered as a conversational tool and as part of subscription services on X. The proposal would change Grok from a conversational assistant to a system that can execute tasks inside users’ accounts.
