Solana’s Shanghai event postponed after registration surge

Solana Foundation President Lily Liu said the Shanghai stop of the Accelerate China tour was postponed after registrations exceeded the local attendance limit.

Solana postponed its Shanghai event after pre-registration exceeded the attendance cap set by local authorities, according to Foundation President Lily Liu.

Registration quadrupled overnight after publicity for the event, Liu wrote Friday on X. Organizers postponed the gathering to comply with local requirements, she wrote.

The Shanghai event was scheduled to open Solana’s four-city China tour. The event website listed Hangzhou for Sunday, Shenzhen for Tuesday and Beijing for Thursday. Organizers have not announced a new date for Shanghai.

Posts on X earlier Friday described the event as abruptly suspended and mentioned law enforcement officers at the venue. Liu attributed the postponement to the registration volume and the local capacity limit.

The postponement followed Solana executives’ promotion of a new office in Shanghai earlier in the week. In October 2025, a Solana event in Shenzhen was cut short because of venue capacity and public-safety concerns, according to Solana’s Chinese-language community account.

China prohibits several cryptocurrency-related activities, including token fundraising, trading and mining. In February, the People’s Bank of China and seven other government agencies reaffirmed those restrictions and added a ban on the unauthorized issuance of yuan-pegged stablecoins.
