Satoshi Leads Arkham’s Bitcoin Ranking With 1.096M BTC
Arkham ranked wallets attributed to Satoshi Nakamoto as the largest Bitcoin holding group at 1.096 million BTC. Strategy led public companies, while exchanges held customer assets.
Arkham’s September 28, 2026 ranking attributed an estimated 1.096 million BTC to wallets linked to Satoshi Nakamoto, the pseudonymous creator of Bitcoin. The estimate does not establish Nakamoto’s identity or confirm who controls the private keys needed to spend the coins.
Arkham added 22,000 addresses to the wallet group in February 2025 after researchers linked them through the Patoshi Pattern, which is associated with early Bitcoin mining. The link provides an attribution method, not proof of ownership or present control.
Strategy ranked first among public companies, with 847,666 BTC reported as of September 27 in a September 28 filing. The company acquired 1,665 BTC during the preceding week for $142.7 million, at an average price of $85,681 per coin, including fees and expenses.
Strategy’s total reported acquisition cost reached $63.95 billion, with an average purchase price of $75,437 per BTC. The company began accumulating Bitcoin in August 2020, when it was known as MicroStrategy. Its holdings equal about 4.04% of Bitcoin’s 21 million-coin supply.
Some of Strategy’s Bitcoin is held with Fidelity Custody. Wallet labels therefore may not capture the company’s full balance reported in its filing.
Coinbase held about 969,000 BTC in Arkham’s review, followed by Binance with roughly 714,000 BTC. The balances mainly reflect customer assets held in exchange wallets rather than the companies’ own investments.
Coinbase’s June 30 SEC filing listed 17,311 BTC held for investment and 553 BTC held for operations. Binance’s reserve methodology identifies covered funds as customer assets held in custody. Its reserve reports compare those assets with customer liabilities. On-chain checks found 248,597.59 BTC in Binance’s largest address, which begins with “34xp4.”
Fidelity Custody appeared separately in Arkham’s ranking with about 436,000 BTC. BlackRock’s iShares Bitcoin Trust ETF held 800,535.29 BTC on September 28, according to its holdings file. The Bitcoin belongs to the trust, while IBIT shareholders hold fractional beneficial interests in its net assets. A custodian holds the coins for the trust.
Federal wallets held about 325,000 BTC in Arkham’s estimate, including assets connected to enforcement cases. An address linked to the recovery of funds from the Bitfinex hack contained 94,643.49 BTC. Government custody is subject to legal conditions, including rules concerning the return of assets to identifiable victims.
Tether’s tracked reserve address held 96,932.41 BTC on September 28. Tether International’s June 30 reserve report identifies its reserve assets as company-owned and records token liabilities as redemption obligations. A single address does not establish the full Bitcoin holdings of every company within the Tether group.
Arkham also listed an unidentified address beginning with “bc1qd4,” which held 91,850.12 BTC. Blockchain records confirm the balance but do not identify its beneficiary. The ranking combines attributed wallets, corporate holdings, exchange customer funds and investment-trust assets, which represent different forms of ownership and custody.
