Samsung SDS in talks with Dunamu on stablecoin tech

Samsung SDS is in talks with Dunamu, operator of Upbit, to develop stablecoin issuance, tokenized securities and AI-based payment systems, CEO Lee Jun-hee told the company’s Q2 earnings call.

Samsung SDS is discussing collaboration with Dunamu, operator of cryptocurrency exchange Upbit, to build infrastructure for stablecoin issuance and settlement, tokenized securities systems and AI-based payment models, CEO Lee Jun-hee told the company’s second-quarter earnings call.

Lee noted Samsung SDS worked on a tokenized securities platform with the Korea Securities Depository and ran end-to-end validation of stablecoin processes from issuance to settlement. “We have already secured differentiated business capabilities in digital asset infrastructure,” the call transcript reads.

The companies strengthened financial ties in May 2026 when Samsung Securities, Samsung SDS and Samsung Card acquired a combined 4% stake in Dunamu. Company executives described the investment as strategic and plan to refine business models for digital financial infrastructure.

Discussions center on three technical areas: stablecoin issuance and settlement infrastructure, tokenized securities systems, and AI-driven payment models that could automate transaction processing and compliance checks.

The talks followed an announcement by Samsung Electronics that Samsung Wallet will add stablecoin support days before the earnings call. Samsung SDS has positioned its cloud, security and IT services to support integrations covering issuance, custody and settlement of tokenized assets.

Samsung SDS reported second-quarter revenue of 3.72 trillion won ($2.6 billion), up 5.9% from a year earlier. Cloud revenue rose 17% year on year, while external cloud business revenue increased 75%. The company plans to expand AI infrastructure from about 110 megawatts today to 230 MW by 2029 and above 800 MW by 2031.

Samsung SDS did not immediately respond to requests for comment, and Dunamu declined to comment.
