Ripple, Settlemint deal to streamline institutional crypto
Ripple signed an agreement with Settlemint to let banks and other institutions issue, manage and settle tokenized assets by linking Ripple’s payments network with Settlemint’s tokenization and compliance platform.
Ripple and Settlemint announced an agreement this week to integrate their technologies so institutional clients can issue, manage and settle tokenized assets. The companies described the work as a link between Ripple’s payments network and Settlemint’s enterprise tokenization and compliance platform.
The integration will use application programming interfaces and ledger-agnostic connectors to route payment instructions, token transfers and settlement instructions between institutional systems and distributed ledgers. The setup is intended to let firms connect existing back-office systems to on-chain settlement rails without replacing core infrastructure.
Settlemint’s platform supports multiple token types and custody arrangements and includes modules for identity checks, transaction monitoring and regulatory reporting to assist with KYC and AML requirements. Ripple’s network provides access to on-chain liquidity and payment messaging that many institutions use for cross-border transfers.
Clients can retain existing custody and compliance providers while using the combined solution to create tokenized versions of fiat, securities or other assets and to settle those tokens across participating platforms. According to the companies, the arrangement aims to shorten settlement windows and reduce the operational steps required to move value on-chain and off-chain.
Target users include banks, payment providers, broker-dealers, asset managers and corporate treasury teams that require regulated settlement and custody for digital assets. The companies pointed to early use cases such as tokenized cash and short-term securities, cross-border corporate payments and integration into existing payments rails to cut reconciliation work and counterparty credit exposure.
Technical work focuses on compatibility with existing enterprise systems and providing APIs for transaction orchestration and settlement finality. The approach allows clients to route settlements through Ripple’s network while using Settlemint’s lifecycle tools for token issuance, transfer authorization and compliance checks.
The partners plan to pilot the integrated offering with select institutional customers before wider availability, subject to pilot results and regulatory checks. Ripple is based in San Francisco and provides payments and settlement infrastructure for financial institutions. Settlemint is a European enterprise software company that builds blockchain-based solutions for asset tokenization, digital identity and regulatory compliance.
The agreement follows growing institutional interest in tokenized assets and regulated settlement options that fit existing compliance frameworks.
