Riot repays $200M Coinbase loan, ends Bitcoin facility
Riot Platforms repaid a $200 million Coinbase Credit loan, terminated the Bitcoin-backed facility and had collateral released, the company disclosed in an SEC filing.
Riot Platforms repaid a $200 million credit facility from Coinbase Credit, terminated the Bitcoin-backed loan and had the collateral held by Coinbase Custody Trust Company released, the company said in a filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission. Riot finished paying the remaining principal and interest on the facility on Monday, according to the filing made public on Friday.
The pledged collateral included Bitcoin, USDC and cash held in custody by Coinbase Custody Trust Company. The SEC filing states Riot incurred no early termination fees or penalties in connection with the prepayment and termination of the facility. The repayment clears the pledged assets from Coinbase Custody and ends the lending arrangement with Coinbase Credit.
Riot has been expanding beyond bitcoin mining into data-center operations. The company secured a 20-year agreement to supply 191 megawatts of capacity from its Rockdale, Texas, campus to Anthropic, a customer identified in the filing, a deal the filing values at roughly $9 billion. Riot reported $167.2 million in revenue for the first quarter of 2026, with its data-center business contributing $33.2 million.
The credit facility provided Riot with liquidity while the pledged assets remained in custody, a structure used by digital-asset firms to access capital without immediately selling cryptocurrency holdings. The SEC filing does not specify how Riot used the proceeds of the loan. The filing did not include comments from company executives.
