Revolut to Remove USDT for EEA and Swiss Customers

Revolut will remove Tether USDT for customers in the EEA and Switzerland after a periodic review under the EU’s MiCA rules.

Revolut confirmed it will stop supporting Tether USDt (USDT) for customers in the European Economic Area (EEA) and in Switzerland. It added support for USDT will continue in other markets.

The company said the decision followed a periodic review of its cryptocurrency offering under the EU’s Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation (MiCA). Revolut began notifying some European users that USDT would be removed by Aug. 31, 2026, and earlier removed USDT from its Revolut X trading product for EEA customers. Revolut described the latest action as completing the removal of USDT from its EEA retail offering.

Revolut included Switzerland among the affected countries but did not explain why Swiss customers were covered. The firm did not publish a full list of jurisdictions where it currently offers crypto services and had not provided further clarification at the time of its statement.

Tether, the issuer of USDT, did not seek authorization under MiCA. Several crypto platforms in the EU have phased out USDT as firms and regulators adjust product lineups and controls while the regulation takes effect. MiCA is an EU regulation expected to apply across the wider EEA, including Norway, Iceland and Liechtenstein; Switzerland is not part of the EU or the EEA.

Revolut said in a statement: “Revolut is discontinuing support for USDT for customers in the EEA following a periodic review of our cryptocurrency offering in light of the evolving EU regulatory framework under MiCA.”

Revolut is headquartered in the United Kingdom, launched crypto trading in 2017 and expanded crypto services into EEA countries in 2024.
