Peter Schiff: Holders will regret not selling above $60,000

Economist Peter Schiff warned bitcoin holders may regret not selling above $60,000, said he regrets not buying earlier and insisted he would not buy even at $20,000.

Economist Peter Schiff warned bitcoin holders may soon regret failing to sell above $60,000, posting the comment on X as the cryptocurrency traded back above $65,000 on July 15.

Schiff posted, “Soon, more people will regret not selling Bitcoin above $60,000 when they had the chance.” Bitcoin traded above $65,005 the same day, about $5,000 higher than the level he flagged.

The longtime gold advocate acknowledged a personal regret at not buying bitcoin when he first learned about it. He also wrote there is “not a chance” he would buy bitcoin now, “not even at $20,000.”

Schiff has frequently criticized bitcoin and has forecast lower prices in past cycles. His July comments followed a sharp June selloff that pushed bitcoin toward roughly $58,000, and a recovery that extended more than 15% through mid-July.

He has directed recent criticism at Strategy, the largest corporate bitcoin holder, noting the firm’s reported treasury of about 840,000 BTC and its program to monetize coins. Schiff argued that if the largest corporate holder is selling, the institutional demand that supported prior price gains could be reduced.

Other market indicators have pointed to continued buying interest. Traders picked up dips below $62,000 and derivatives positioning shows heavy long exposure. The recovery into the mid-$60,000s marked the first time bitcoin traded at those levels since renewed U.S.–Iran tensions earlier in the week pushed prices under $62,000.

Whether holders who kept positions above $60,000 will later regret not selling, or whether Schiff’s early exit call will prove premature, will depend on price action and market flows in the coming weeks.

Schiff’s posts and the market moves on July 15 illustrate the contrasting views among investors about bitcoin’s near-term outlook.
