Nvidia Surge Sends Michael Dell to Third-Richest Spot
Dell’s stock rose about 350% in 2026, lifting Michael Dell’s net worth to $276.5 billion and moving him past Jeff Bezos to become the world’s third-richest person.
Dell’s share price climbed roughly 350% in 2026. Most of the gains have accrued to Michael Dell, whose net worth reached $276.5 billion and overtook Jeff Bezos for the world’s third-richest position.
The rally has been driven by demand for servers used in artificial intelligence. Nvidia supplies high-performance processors; Dell integrates those chips into servers and ships them to data centers and cloud customers.
Nvidia reported $96.2 billion in revenue last quarter and retained about 75 cents of every dollar. Dell reported $47 billion and retained roughly 21 cents of every dollar, even as sales of its AI servers doubled.
Ownership stakes explain the concentration of wealth. Michael Dell controls about 40% of Dell, so a large share of the stock rally flows directly to his personal fortune. Nvidia founder Jensen Huang owns about 3% of Nvidia and has an estimated net worth of $189.1 billion.
The large Dell stake traces to a 2013 transaction that returned the company to private ownership. Public shareholders received $13.88 a share in that buyout, which reduced the number of outside owners.
Some analysts say higher server sales do not automatically mean sustained profit increases. James Fish, senior analyst at Piper Sandler, warned that margins may not expand even as revenue grows.
Earlier periods of rapid share-price appreciation created substantial wealth for employees and local investors; local counts from past booms include about 2,700 employees who became millionaires in Austin. The current appreciation has been concentrated among large shareholders rather than broadly distributed.
Short-term shifts in stock price can alter individual net worth rankings, but they do not change underlying ownership stakes that determine who benefits from future gains.
