MoonPay launches PayBox for ChatGPT and Claude crypto approvals
PayBox is a vault that lets ChatGPT and Claude users prepare and approve crypto buys, token swaps and cross‑chain transfers inside chats while retaining control of funds.
MoonPay launched PayBox, a payment vault that lets users of ChatGPT and Claude prepare and authorize cryptocurrency purchases, token swaps and cross‑chain transfers from within a conversation while keeping control of their funds. The service connects a user’s crypto wallet and payment methods to an AI assistant so the assistant can build transactions on command and execute them only with user approval or within preset limits.
Users link a crypto wallet and payment methods-debit card, bank account, Apple Pay or PayPal-to the assistant. Natural‑language prompts let the assistant prepare token swaps, cross‑chain transfers and other decentralized finance interactions. Transactions can be approved with a passkey, set to require approval every time, or allowed to proceed automatically up to predefined spending limits.
PayBox protects private keys using multi‑party computation and trusted execution environments designed to prevent either the AI assistant or MoonPay from independently accessing funds. The vault supports multiple blockchains and includes a software development kit that lets third‑party developers embed the payment functionality into other AI interfaces.
PayBox supports x402, an open payment protocol developed by Coinbase and contributed to the Linux Foundation in April 2026. The protocol enables internet‑native payments by AI agents and allows transfers across services that implement the standard.
Several firms have added x402 capabilities this year. In June, Coinbase released tools for AI agents to accept USDC, trade crypto, discover paid services and handle higher‑frequency micropayments. Amazon Web Services integrated x402 into its Bedrock AgentCore Payments service, and custody firm Fireblocks launched an x402‑compatible payments framework and joined the x402 Foundation.
Blockchain analytics firm Chainalysis reported that agentic payments on Coinbase’s Base network surpassed 100 million transactions within about nine months. Public dashboard data for the protocol’s ecosystem show more than 12.7 million transactions in the past 30 days across participating services.
MoonPay has not disclosed regional launch limits. The PayBox SDK is available for developers who want to integrate the vault into other AI applications.
