MoneyGram Runs Solana Validator, Stakes SOL to Process Blocks
MoneyGram became an active Solana validator on June 22, 2026, staking SOL and processing transaction blocks while joining the Solana Developer Platform with Mastercard.
MoneyGram began operating as an active validator on the Solana network on June 22, 2026. The Dallas-based payments firm said it is staking SOL tokens, running validator infrastructure and processing transaction blocks. The company also joined the Solana Developer Platform alongside Mastercard.
Validators stake tokens to participate in block production, confirm transactions and help maintain network consensus and security. MoneyGram’s validator will provide computing resources and software infrastructure used to produce blocks on Solana and contribute to the network’s consensus processes.
The company described the launch as its first direct participation at the protocol level of a public blockchain. According to Luke Tuttle, MoneyGram’s chief product and technology officer, ‘Running a validator puts MoneyGram inside Solana’s consensus. We stake Solana, process transaction blocks and help secure the network at the protocol level. We help run the rails we move money on.’
MoneyGram said it has integrated blockchain technology into its payments infrastructure for more than five years. The company reported that it uses stablecoins across treasury operations, product development and payment flows, and that its systems are designed to operate with both fiat and stablecoin rails.
Anthony Soohoo, MoneyGram’s chairman and CEO, noted the company’s more than 85 years in payments and said that the firm intends to support stablecoin rails for global access. He added that compliance, regulatory clarity and operational scale are necessary to develop those rails.
Sheraz Shere, general manager of payments and commerce at the Solana Foundation, commented that MoneyGram’s validator launch and platform participation reflect a commitment to the Solana ecosystem and that global payments operators are engaging as more payments activity moves onchain.
MoneyGram operates in over 200 countries and territories, serves more than 60 million active customers through nearly 500,000 retail locations and maintains a digital ecosystem that reaches billions of devices. Company officials emphasized that running a validator places MoneyGram at the infrastructure layer of Solana rather than at the application level.
The Solana Developer Platform is described as an API-driven, AI-ready environment for institutions building compliant financial products on Solana. Mastercard is listed among early adopters on the platform.
