MetaMask launches Agent Wallet for AI-driven trading

MetaMask launched Agent Wallet, a self-custodial wallet that lets AI agents execute on-chain trades within user-set spending limits, protocol allowlists and security checks.

MetaMask on Thursday launched Agent Wallet, a self-custodial wallet designed to let AI agents execute on-chain trades within user-defined limits and permissions. The company positioned the product for traders and developers using automated agents to monitor markets and act on opportunities.

Users can set spending caps, approve specific protocols, choose risk settings and select between two automation levels called Guard Mode and Beast Mode before an agent is allowed to transact. The wallet enforces those wallet-level rules rather than granting agents unrestricted access.

Agent Wallet runs supported transactions through pre-execution checks including transaction simulation, threat scanning and smart transactions MEV protection. Eligible transactions that pass those checks may receive Transaction Protection coverage of up to $10,000 per month for losses that meet the program’s terms.

The wallet supports multiple agent frameworks and developer tools, including Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, OpenClaw, Hermes and OpenCode. It is compatible with Hyperliquid and other Ethereum Virtual Machine–compatible networks.

Agent Wallet offers gas abstraction that lets users pay network fees in the asset being transferred instead of holding the chain’s native token. MetaMask wrote that agents can transfer and swap without holding a chain’s native token and that MetaMask will “settle the network fee in the token being moved.”

MetaMask began an early access rollout in June for about 200 users before making Agent Wallet generally available. The product documentation describes a rules-based model: “The agent can act, but it acts inside the user’s boundaries,” the company wrote.

The launch follows other industry efforts to build infrastructure for AI-driven portfolio management and automated interactions with decentralized applications. Earlier this year, other firms introduced agent-enabled wallets and expanded agent platforms.

MetaMask is a product of Consensys. The company described Agent Wallet’s combination of automation controls, pre-execution checks and fee-handling features as a way to allow autonomous agents to operate while keeping operational and security settings at the wallet level.
