McDonald’s India removes posts; analysts see 24% MCD upside
McDonald’s India deleted posts after a first-person thread said an unpaid intern was owed about ₹60,000 and promoted a meme coin. Analysts’ average 12-month target sits about 24% above the recent close.
On Sunday, McDonald’s India removed a string of posts from its verified X account after a first-person thread claimed an unpaid intern was owed roughly ₹60,000 and promoted a meme coin. The posts were deleted later the same day.
The thread named a manager, Amit Joshi, and said no salary had been paid since December 2025; a later post revised that date to May. The inconsistency prompted readers to question the account’s authenticity. The messages put the outstanding sum above ₹60,000, said meme coin trading losses had caused daily hardship for the writer, and included a promotion for a token with crypto wallet addresses. One message noted fees had already been claimed. McDonald’s India replied on X with a meme that read “McD admin right now: If only our actual posts went this viral…” and removed the thread.
The company has not publicly confirmed whether the account was compromised. No public leadership listing for the operator contains a person named Amit Joshi. Similar account takeovers of corporate and executive feeds have been recorded in the past.
The posts appeared while McDonald’s Corp. shares were near their weakest close in about a year. The company closed trading on the preceding Friday at $255.69, down from a March peak near $340 and printing lower monthly highs since then. Trading in the most recent week trimmed about 3.5% from the share price.
Analyst coverage remains skewed toward positive ratings. Over the past three months, 24 analysts reported coverage: 14 rated McDonald’s a buy and 10 rated it a hold. Their average 12-month price target is $317.18, roughly 24% above the recent close; individual targets range from $280 to $390.
Company results show modest growth. In the second quarter, McDonald’s reported diluted earnings per share of $3.32, a 6% year-over-year increase, and global comparable sales rose 1.3%. The gap between analyst targets and the share price existed before the social media posts.
McDonald’s India has not provided a public explanation of whether its account was breached, and the internal claims of unpaid wages have not been independently verified by the company.
