Mark Cuban-backed DeFi dashboard Zapper to close Aug. 3

Zapper, the Mark Cuban-backed DeFi analytics platform, will shut its website, mobile app and API on Aug. 3 after seven years, CEO Seb Audet wrote.

Zapper will stop operating its website, mobile app and API on Aug. 3, ending the company’s seven-year run in decentralized finance tools. CEO Seb Audet posted on X that the team evaluated multiple options and decided on an orderly wind down. He wrote, “We evaluated a number of different options, pursued some to the fullest extent possible, and came to the realization that an orderly wind down is the best course of action,” and added, “At the end of the day, the market decides.”

Founded in 2019, Zapper first gained attention after winning a DeFi hackathon hosted by Kyber and used that momentum to raise a $1.5 million seed round. In May 2021 it completed a $15 million Series A led by Framework Ventures, with participation from Mark Cuban, Coinbase Ventures and Sound Ventures. The platform offered tools to track token prices, monitor DeFi positions, manage liquidity pools and yield farms, and discover airdrops.

At its peak, Zapper reported more than 2 million monthly active users and said it processed over $13 billion in transactions. In April 2025 the company experienced a social engineering attack that temporarily hijacked its domain and redirected users to a malicious page containing phishing traps.

Zapper’s closure follows a string of recent shutdowns and scale-backs across the crypto industry. Cardano analytics provider TapTools closed in June, Bitcoin-focused DeFi platform Botanix announced a shutdown shortly after, and other operations that have reduced or ceased services this year include parts of SBI’s crypto business, the decentralized email service Dmail, and NFT marketplaces such as Nifty Gateway and Rodeo.

On funding, crypto venture capital rose 57.6% year-over-year to $4.21 billion in the second quarter, while the total number of deals has fallen sharply over recent quarters, concentrating capital among fewer companies. Zapper said public services will stop on Aug. 3 and the team will shut down operations.
