Man pleads guilty in Danbury Lamborghini carjacking, bitcoin plot

Saif Faiq, 22, pleaded guilty in Hartford federal court to conspiring in the Aug. 25, 2024 Danbury Lamborghini carjacking and the related kidnapping tied to a bitcoin theft.

Saif Faiq, 22, pleaded guilty in Hartford federal court to one count of conspiracy to interfere with commerce by robbery, a Hobbs Act offense, over a violent Aug. 25, 2024 carjacking and kidnapping in Danbury, Connecticut. Prosecutors say Faiq helped organize the plot, recruited participants and conducted surveillance of the victims prior to the attack.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Connecticut announced on June 8, 2026 that Faiq, a St. Louis resident, admitted the charge. The offense carries a maximum sentence of 20 years. Federal court records show Faiq has been detained since his arrest on Nov. 12, 2025, and his sentencing is set for Aug. 28, 2026.

Court filings and the prosecutor’s statement outline how the scheme unfolded. Investigators say an altercation at a Miami nightclub in July 2024 between a co-conspirator and the son of a person tied to a large bitcoin theft helped set the plan in motion. On Aug. 25, police arrested six men from Florida after they allegedly carjacked a Lamborghini Urus in Danbury and kidnapped two occupants inside the vehicle.

Authorities identified the victims as the parents of an individual accused of participating in the theft of hundreds of millions of dollars in bitcoin. Federal prosecutors say the kidnapping was meant to gain leverage against that individual and that the broader investigation has produced multiple prosecutions.

Prosecutors allege Faiq traveled to Connecticut to take part in a planned home invasion and the kidnapping, coordinated with his brother Adam Iza, and helped arrange surveillance of the targets. Court documents describe another co-conspirator who communicated with certain kidnappers, provided funding, and arranged transportation and lodging for the group before the Danbury incident.

Adam Iza pleaded guilty to the same Hobbs Act conspiracy on June 1, 2026 and remains detained awaiting sentencing. Prosecutors reported that six additional people charged in connection with the carjacking and kidnapping have also pleaded guilty. With the guilty pleas of Faiq and Iza, eight defendants have admitted roles in the case.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office wrote, “In an attempt to steal some of that Bitcoin, Faiq and others planned and coordinated the attempted robbery and ultimately the kidnapping.” Federal authorities continue to pursue related charges tied to the larger investigation into the bitcoin theft.
