Kraken opens US stock trading to customers across the EEA
Kraken lets eligible EEA customers trade over 7,000 US-listed stocks via Kraken Pro and its mobile app under its MiFID II authorization.
Kraken has opened trading in more than 7,000 US-listed stocks to eligible customers in the European Economic Area. The service is available on Kraken Pro and the company’s mobile app under a Markets in Financial Instruments Directive II authorization.
Trading is provided by Payward Europe Digital Solutions, Kraken’s Cyprus-based investment firm. Eligible customers may trade US shares commission-free, subject to local rules and platform terms. Settlement and custody services for the equities are managed by the licensed Payward Europe entity.
The stocks are listed alongside more than 600 cryptocurrencies and over 700 xStocks, Kraken’s tokenized representations of publicly listed equities and exchange-traded funds. Users can hold conventional shares and tokenized versions of the same assets within a single account and place orders through the same interface used for crypto trading.
Kraken introduced xStocks in 2025 to offer tokenized exposure to US equities and ETFs. Since launch, xStocks have generated more than $38 billion in total transaction volume. By market capitalization xStocks are the second-largest tokenized stock issuer at about $609 million, behind Ondo Finance at about $974 million and ahead of Binance’s bStocks at about $544 million, according to Token Terminal data.
Tokenized shares represent legal claims recorded on blockchain-based tokens that track the price and dividends of underlying securities. Kraken’s platform lists those tokenized positions alongside centrally cleared, conventional share positions provided under its investment firm license.
Eligible EEA customers can begin trading immediately where local rules permit. Kraken plans to extend the integrated equities offering to additional jurisdictions in the coming months.
