KB Securities to Tokenize Bonds and Funds on Blockchain Hub

KB Securities will build a permissioned blockchain hub to issue and trade tokenized securities, and will run pilots for issuance, custody and secondary trading.

KB Securities, a major brokerage within KB Financial Group, plans to build a permissioned blockchain hub to issue and trade tokenized versions of traditional securities such as bonds and funds. The firm says the platform will record ownership and claims on a distributed ledger and support electronic issuance and settlement.

The project will use a permissioned blockchain maintained by the hub to register asset ownership, aiming to speed up transaction processing and automate record-keeping. KB Securities is preparing pilot programs to test issuance, custody and secondary trading of security tokens before wider commercial operations begin.

The company intends to design the hub to meet South Korean financial rules and to integrate the platform with existing post-trade systems. KB Securities plans to work with custodians, clearing agents and other market infrastructure providers to align operational processes and connectivity.

Tokenized records on the ledger are expected to shorten settlement cycles and could enable fractional ownership of larger assets. Security tokens can be programmed with embedded rights, including automated dividend distributions and voting rules executed through smart contracts.

Regulatory clearance and partner readiness are listed as conditions for broader use. South Korean financial authorities have been developing frameworks for digital assets and fintech pilots, and KB Securities intends to align the hub’s technical and governance arrangements with applicable rules for issuance, custody and investor protection.

The initiative joins other institutional experiments in South Korea and abroad that test distributed ledger technology for bond tokenization, cross-border settlement and digital custody. KB Securities will launch pilots and seek approvals before expanding operations, with execution dependent on supporting technology and market infrastructure.
