Kanga secures Class 3 MiCA license in Latvia
SIA AlphaRoute received a Class 3 MiCA license from the Bank of Latvia on June 18, enabling Kanga to offer custody, trading and transfer services across the EU.
SIA AlphaRoute, the operator of Poland‑founded crypto exchange Kanga, received a Class 3 Markets in Crypto‑Assets Regulation (MiCA) license from the Bank of Latvia on June 18. The authorization allows Kanga to provide crypto custody, trading and transfer services across the European Union using EU passporting rights.
The Bank of Latvia’s Supervisory Committee approved the authorization. Kanga began a pre‑licensing process in Latvia in November 2025 after evaluating several jurisdictions.
CEO Dominik Tomczyk commented that the company planned to use the MiCA transitional period to prepare the organisation to operate within the new regulatory framework: “From the very beginning, we knew that we had to use the transitional period provided for under the MiCA regulation to prepare the organisation to operate within the new regulatory framework.”
Poland has not yet adopted national MiCA legislation ahead of the EU’s July 1 transitional deadline. President Andrzej Duda vetoed a government‑backed crypto bill on June 11, citing unresolved objections, including provisions he viewed as overly burdensome for crypto firms. Members of the Poland 2050 party in the governing coalition later submitted a revised bill that its sponsors say would reduce some fees, remove certain requirements and accelerate parliamentary consideration.
Poland’s crypto sector is also under regulatory and legal scrutiny following a criminal investigation into Zonda, the country’s largest exchange, where prosecutors estimate customer losses exceeding 350 million zlotys (about $92.7 million).
With the Latvian MiCA license, SIA AlphaRoute can legally passport Kanga’s services across EU member states while Polish lawmakers continue to negotiate domestic rules. Kanga will communicate any operational changes and updated service terms to customers through its official channels.
