Google adds 10 AI features to Chrome

Google is rolling out 10 new AI features in Chrome, starting with ‘Gemini in Chrome’ for desktop users in the U.S.
New Chrome features include an on-page Gemini assistant that can clarify complex information, work across multiple tabs, and recall pages visited earlier. The update also adds an “AI Mode” entry point in the address bar (omnibox), deeper links to Google apps like Calendar, YouTube, and Maps, and multiple safety upgrades, with wider language and country support planned in the coming weeks.
The update is first rolling out to U.S. desktop users with Chrome set to English. Google says Gemini in Chrome will expand to mobile soon - on Android, it can be activated with the power button, and on iOS, it will be built into the Chrome app. Business access through Google Workspace is coming in the next few weeks.
In Chrome, Gemini isn’t limited to explaining individual pages. It can pull context from multiple tabs to compare information or put together itineraries, and upcoming updates will let it surface sites you’ve visited before through natural prompts. Later this month, the address bar will also include quick access to Search’s AI Mode in English in the U.S., supporting longer and more detailed queries with follow-ups.
Google says it plans to add “agentic” capabilities to Gemini in Chrome in the coming months. The feature is designed to carry out routine tasks, such as booking appointments or placing grocery orders, directly on web pages. According to the announcement, users will be able to give instructions and let Gemini complete the actions, with the option to stop the process at any time.
