France Tops Spain in Betting on 2026 World Cup Winner

Traders have wagered more than $2.8 billion on Polymarket and Kalshi for the 2026 World Cup winner; France now leads Spain across both platforms.

Traders on prediction platforms Polymarket and Kalshi have committed over $2.8 billion combined to contracts predicting the 2026 FIFA World Cup winner. Polymarket’s tournament market has recorded about $2.54 billion in volume, with France priced at an implied 18% probability and French contracts trading near 18.5 cents, totaling roughly $58.3 million in individual contract volume. Kalshi has recorded $333.7 million in World Cup trading and places France at about 19.2%.

Spain’s probability has declined after a group-stage draw with Cape Verde. On Polymarket Spain is priced near 13%; on Kalshi Spain sits around 12.8% and is down about 1.9 percentage points.

Other contenders on Polymarket include Argentina at about 12% with $57 million in volume, England at roughly 10% with $42.3 million, and Portugal trading near 10.3 cents with $50.9 million. Brazil trades near 7%, Germany near 6% and the Netherlands near 4%.

Daily match markets account for much of the activity. The highest single-match volume on Polymarket for the day was Portugal versus DR Congo at $5.28 million, with Portugal at 77 cents, DR Congo at 8 cents and a draw at 18 cents; the spread market showed Portugal at 53 cents to win by more than 1.5 goals. England versus Croatia carried about $1.69 million, with England at 57 cents, Croatia at 18 cents and a draw at 26 cents; Croatia’s +1.5 spread traded near 70 cents. Colombia versus Uzbekistan drew about $1.20 million with Colombia near 71 cents, and Ghana versus Panama recorded roughly $980,430 in volume.

Markets are adjusting as group results, draws and injury reports change short-term probabilities. The World Cup begins on July 19, 2026. Both Polymarket and Kalshi resolve winner contracts based on the official FIFA result. Differences in probabilities between the platforms reflect variations in participant pools and liquidity and how traders weigh recent match outcomes and squad fitness.
