ESMA adds 14 CASPs to MiCA register; approvals slow

The European Securities and Markets Authority added 14 crypto-asset service providers to its interim Markets in Crypto-Assets register on July 16, 2026, bringing the total number of listed CASPs to 294. The update follows a July 3 expansion that added 37 providers.

New entries in the July 16 update include Ripple Payments Europe, the European payments arm of Ripple; Portugal’s Bison Bank; Croatia’s state-owned Hrvatska poštanska banka (HPB); the German cooperative banks Volksbank Schwarzwald-Donau-Neckar and Raiffeisenbank Auerbach-Freihung; and Liechtenstein-based Kaiser Partner Privatbank.

ESMA’s interim MiCA register contains a mix of crypto firms and established banks that sought authorization under the regulation. The register lists institutions such as Spain’s BBVA and CaixaBank, Germany’s Commerzbank, France’s CACEIS Bank and Standard Chartered Luxembourg among others that have obtained or applied for regulated status.

ESMA reported no changes to its electronic money token (EMT) and asset-referenced token (ART) registers. The EMT register currently shows 21 unique issuers; the ART register lists no approved issuers. Electronic money tokens are intended to maintain a stable value against a single official currency, while asset-referenced tokens are linked to multiple assets such as currencies or commodities.

Separately, ESMA added two entities to its non-compliant register following actions by Italy’s securities regulator CONSOB. Reversal Investment Group and Kortex were placed on the non-compliant list, bringing the total number of non-compliant entries to 164, a list that includes the crypto exchange MEXC.

The interim MiCA register is the public record of firms that have obtained or applied for authorization under MiCA after the regulation’s transitional period ended. The register was updated in two batches in July: 37 entries on July 3 and 14 entries on July 16.
