Edel expands institutional push for tokenized assets

Edel will scale tokenized equities and commodities on Canton under board member Brad Klaas and has joined the DTC working group for the DTCC Tokenization Service.

New York, Sept. 17, 2026 — Edel announced an expanded institutional effort to bring tokenized equities and commodities onto the Canton network and said it has joined the DTC Digital Assets Solutions Industry Working Group to shape the DTCC Tokenization Service, scheduled for Q4 2026.

Edel will work with more than 100 members of the working group, including major market participants such as NYSE, BlackRock, Goldman Sachs, JPMorgan and Citadel Securities, to provide feedback on how tokenized securities should operate within existing market infrastructure.

The company’s stated focus is on making tokenized assets usable for established institutional functions: margin, collateral, lending and settlement. Edel is concentrating initially on perpetual futures on Canton and is exploring whether securities tokenized by DTC could be accepted directly as margin in Edel Markets.

Brad Klaas, who joined Edel’s board to lead institutional strategy and industry relationships, has decades of experience in securities lending and prime brokerage. His background includes running global securities-lending operations at Wells Fargo Investment Advisors, a business that later became part of Barclays Global Investors, and work on institutional tokenized collateral at Franklin Templeton. Klaas has pointed to the potential for a token to generate income both from network participation and the services built on top of it, describing the concept as “creating that flywheel around income.” He has also noted that many back-office systems remain configured in traditional ways that institutions expect to work.

Edel said qualifying applications on Canton can earn Canton Coin rewards for economic activity on the network. The company reported in August that the network was generating “tens of thousands in revenue every day,” a figure the firm attributed to those rewards.

Market participants and infrastructure providers continue to address operational and legal requirements that remain when an asset is placed on a blockchain. Tokenized securities must interact with securities lending desks, custodians, clearing arrangements and corporate actions processes. Participants need clear rules for valuation, counterparty exposure, recourse in default and the recall of securities when required. Edel’s participation in the DTCC-related working group is intended to incorporate those practical needs into the design of tokenization services.

The industry has already moved several products and rails onto blockchains. The DTCC is developing the Tokenization Service to create common post-trade infrastructure for tokenized securities. The working group will collect industry feedback ahead of the service’s planned launch in Q4 2026.

Edel said its board-level work will translate institutional operating and commercial requirements into the markets it is building on Canton and that the company will engage decision-makers across traditional finance to align token design with legal and operational frameworks while developing products that allow tokenized assets to be used across multiple financial functions.
