CZ explains why Vitalik Buterin has almost stopped posting on X
CZ said toxic debates over ETH’s price pushed Vitalik Buterin to reduce his activity on X – a development he called a “pure negative” for the Ethereum community.
Binance founder Changpeng Zhao said Vitalik Buterin reduced his activity on X because of toxic backlash from investors reacting to ETH’s price movements. According to CZ, constant accusations directed at the Ethereum creator over token price fluctuations drove him to effectively leave the platform – a “pure negative” for both the project and the wider industry.
CZ noted that when users blamed Buterin for ETH’s lack of growth, the pressure eventually caused one of the industry’s most important voices to step back from public conversation. In his view, everyone loses: ETH holders and the broader crypto ecosystem are deprived of Buterin’s expertise and influence.
His comments came during a discussion about a new wave of FUD directed at Binance. One user suggested that even if bitcoin hypothetically fell from $1 million, critics would still blame CZ. Zhao agreed and cited Buterin’s situation as an example of how pressure on public leaders often defies logic.
In the same thread, CZ said FUD attacks have followed him “since day one” and promised to address new allegations during an upcoming AMA session. He also reiterated his long-term view that bitcoin “will reach $1 million eventually.”
Beyond his remarks about Buterin, Zhao confirmed that Binance will convert its entire $1 billion SAFU insurance fund into bitcoin in the coming weeks. The company says the move is intended to support the market amid declining crypto prices and BTC falling below $82,000.
Community reaction to CZ’s statement was mixed. Some agreed that social-media toxicity drives industry leaders away, while others argued that public figures must withstand pressure and continue communicating.
Still, Zhao’s comments highlight a growing issue: social platforms have become a real factor shaping industry dynamics, and the withdrawal of key developers from public spaces lowers the quality of discourse and reduces transparency around project development.
