Coldcard Investigates Phishing Post on Official X Account

Coldcard is investigating how a phishing link appeared on its official X account Sunday and warned users not to open or interact with it.

The Bitcoin-only hardware wallet company deleted the post and is reviewing all access to the account. Coldcard has used offline two-factor authentication and restricted account access since 2017.

Coldcard contacted X to investigate how the post was published. The company told users to rely only on its official website, coldcard.com, and said it would provide further verified updates.

The incident follows a separate exploit linked to Coldcard that contributed to a rise in cryptocurrency thefts in July 2026. Hackers stole at least $100 million in Bitcoin from about 7,300 wallets across three confirmed attack waves, according to Galaxy Digital.

Investigators identified a suspected fourth wave that could raise the total losses to about $130 million. DeFiLlama’s hack tracker estimated losses tied to the exploit at $115 million.

DeFiLlama data showed that hackers stole $247.4 million in cryptocurrency during July, making it the second-worst month of 2026 for crypto theft at that time. April remained the largest month, with about $644 million stolen.
