Coinbase Ventures Tops Crypto VC Deal Count in H1 2026

Coinbase Ventures completed 30 VC deals in H1 2026, leading crypto investors. Animoca Brands completed 19 deals and a16z completed 18, CryptoRank data shows.

Coinbase Ventures led cryptocurrency venture activity in the first half of 2026, completing 30 investments through midyear, CryptoRank data shows. Animoca Brands completed 19 deals, Andreessen Horowitz logged 18 and Tether’s venture arm completed 15.

Over the past 12 months Coinbase Ventures recorded 75 deals, the highest among firms tracked. Other top investors in the year-long period included Animoca Brands with 40 deals, YZi Labs with 39, GSR with 31 and a16z with 30.

In the six months through mid-2026 Coinbase Ventures participated in seven payment protocol funding rounds, four decentralized finance rounds and three rounds tied to infrastructure and real-world asset tokenization, according to CryptoRank.

Monthly funding totals showed a decline from earlier in the year. Crypto companies raised $1.4 billion in June 2026, down 63% from $3.8 billion in April. Fundraising rounds fell to 61 in June from 89 in May. April recorded $698 million across 71 rounds. Early July data covered $456 million raised across 12 rounds.

By sector, decentralized finance led with 216 fundraising rounds over the past year. Payments startups completed 131 rounds, AI-crypto companies closed 128 rounds and infrastructure providers raised capital in 110 rounds. All other sectors registered fewer than 100 rounds each in the same period.

The number of unique investors narrowed in recent months, falling to 242 in June from 452 in October 2025, CryptoRank reports. U.S.-based venture firms accounted for $5.8 billion of disclosed investment over the past six months and Australian VCs contributed $3.6 billion. More than $11.6 billion of capital in that period was listed as coming from undisclosed locations.
