Coinbase Brings Tokenized US Stocks to Base with Chainlink
Coinbase launched tokenized U.S. stocks on Base Monday, issuing B20 tokens and integrating Chainlink Data Feeds to provide continuous pricing for DeFi applications.
Coinbase launched tokenized U.S. stocks on its Base layer-2 blockchain on Monday, issuing B20 tokens for Nvidia, Apple, Meta and Alphabet and integrating Chainlink Data Feeds to supply continuous pricing for on-chain use.
Chainlink’s Data Feeds will value each B20 token using the underlying share price plus a Coinbase-supplied multiplier that adjusts for dividends and corporate actions. The continuous price feed allows decentralized finance protocols to reference live prices when accepting the tokens in lending markets, decentralized exchanges and structured products.
The stocks are issued natively on Base and available to non-U.S. users in eligible jurisdictions. Each B20 token represents a direct claim on the corresponding share held by regulated broker and custodian Alpaca under a structure overseen by the Abu Dhabi Global Market. Tokens can be transferred to self-custody wallets and traded on Base around the clock.
Coinbase said the assets can be integrated with existing DeFi infrastructure, citing examples such as supplying tokenized Apple shares to liquidity pools and using tokenized Nvidia shares as collateral for loans on protocols like Aave. The company expects additional tokenized stocks to launch on Base in the coming weeks.
Market data shows the total value of tokenized stocks at about $2.48 billion, up roughly 5.2% over the past 30 days. Monthly transfer volume is near $27.28 billion and the number of token holders has passed 2.1 million.
Chainlink’s documentation describes how the feeds combine market pricing with Coinbase’s multiplier to reflect corporate events and dividend adjustments when valuing each token.
