Coinbase Adds Nearly 4,000 US Stocks to UK App
Coinbase began offering almost 4,000 U.S. stocks to eligible U.K. users on Aug. 6, with 24/5 trading, £1 fractional shares, zero commissions and funding via pounds or USDC.
Coinbase began offering nearly 4,000 U.S.-listed stocks to eligible U.K. users on Aug. 6, rolling the service out progressively through its mobile and web app. Trading is available 24 hours a day, five days a week, extending access beyond standard U.S. market hours.
Users can buy fractional shares starting at £1 and settle orders instantly using sterling balances or USDC held on the platform. Coinbase set stock trades at zero commission but said additional transaction costs may apply depending on order type and market structure.
The new stock service is listed alongside users’ existing crypto and fiat balances in the app. Coinbase described the change as an integration of equities and digital assets; in a blog post the company wrote, “Every Coinbase U.K. user can now trade U.S. stocks, and crypto in one single app.” The post added, “Crypto markets are 24/7/365. By launching 24/5 stock trading, Coinbase is bringing more access and more hours to traditional stock trading for U.K. users.”
The expansion follows prior product introductions in the U.K., including savings and crypto-backed borrowing, and follows the firm’s receipt of U.K. investment-services approval under the Markets in Financial Instruments Directive framework. The Financial Conduct Authority authorization allows Coinbase to offer regulated services involving financial instruments such as equities and derivatives and subjects those services to rules on consumer protection and market integrity.
Coinbase said it expects the extended hours and the proximity of stocks to crypto balances to lower friction for some users and to encourage greater retail participation. The company pointed to survey data showing lower U.K. retail participation in stock markets compared with the U.S. and plans to test during 2026 whether combining equities, crypto and USDC rewards will increase adoption. Members of the Coinbase One subscription will continue to earn uncapped rewards on eligible USDC balances used within the platform.
Access to the stock trading feature is limited to eligible customers during the phased rollout. Coinbase will monitor customer uptake and order flow as it operates the new service. The launch expands the range of traditional financial products available through the app, which began life as a crypto-focused exchange and has added multiple non-token services in recent years.
