Coinbase acquires fundraising platform Echo for $375 million

Coinbase is expanding its presence in on-chain financing: the company acquired the startup Echo to unite token sales, investments, and trading within a single ecosystem.
Echo is one of the leaders in on-chain crowdfunding and collective investments. The $375 million deal includes both cash and stock components.
Echo was founded by crypto veteran Cobie, who has been developing the concept of community-driven investing since 2021. The platform enables projects to raise capital directly via private and public token sales, including its Sonar system for self-hosted offerings.
Under his leadership, Echo helped fund projects such as MegaETH, Initia, Ethena, and Fogo, demonstrating strong demand for a model that gives communities access to investment terms once reserved for venture funds.
Coinbase said that integrating Echo will create a seamless cycle for startups - from token issuance to listing and trading.
Cobie, known as a trader, analyst, and host of the UpOnly podcast with Brian Krogsgard (Ledger), has shifted from trading to building collective investment tools. He has become a prominent advocate for decentralized venture financing.

In its initial phase, the company will focus on crypto assets but plans to expand Echo’s infrastructure to support tokenized securities and real-world assets (RWA) in the future.
Echo has already helped more than 300 projects raise over $200 million, including the Plasma (XPL) token sale. These capabilities will join the Coinbase ecosystem, advancing open and transparent capital markets.
The deal follows Coinbase’s earlier acquisition of Liquifi, a company specializing in tokenization and cap table management. Together, Liquifi and Echo will allow Coinbase to offer a full on-chain capitalization cycle - from project launch to secondary trading - giving users early access to opportunities once limited to venture investors.
The integration of Echo underscores Coinbase’s broader goal: to build an open Web3 marketplace where anyone can invest and trade digital assets without intermediaries.
