Cathie Wood: Investors underrate LayerZero’s ZRO token
Cathie Wood wrote investors undervalue LayerZero’s ZRO and its cross-chain messaging role, citing ARK research projecting nine-figure ARR; ARK discloses holdings in LayerZero and ZRO.
Cathie Wood amplified ARK Invest research on X, arguing many investors undervalue LayerZero’s ZRO token and the protocol’s cross-chain messaging business. Wood highlighted the founding team and shared a research note by ARK’s Lorenzo Valente.
ARK’s paper, published Sept. 3 and using data through June, credits LayerZero with $280 billion in cumulative value transferred and attributes 44% of cross-chain volume to the protocol in the first half of 2026. The analysis counts more than 170 supported networks.
The report notes competing technologies. Circle’s Cross-Chain Transfer Protocol accounted for roughly 41% of cross-chain volume in the same period, and Chainlink promotes a cross-chain approach through its CCIP offering.
LayerZero’s software relays verified messages between blockchains that cannot natively communicate. Those messages allow transactions, swaps and wrapped assets to move between different networks. ARK frames fees from cross-chain messaging as a potential revenue source if activity between app-specific chains and rollups increases.
Market prices did not immediately follow Wood’s endorsement. At the time of reporting, ZRO traded near $1.04, down about 6% on the day, with a market value around $368.7 million and a ranking near 120th among tokens. Over the past month ZRO rose roughly 36%, driven by a spike between Aug. 21 and Aug. 23. The token fell to a record low of $0.71 on July 31 and remains below its December 2024 peak of $7.47. Monthly token unlocks have increased the circulating supply to about 353 million ZRO.
ARK discloses direct financial interests in LayerZero Labs and ZRO. Valente framed his revenue projection as his own read rather than a formal firm forecast, and Wood’s post amplified that view. ARK said a second part of its series will examine whether observed fee structures and usage patterns can support the projected revenue levels.
Wood wrote on X that many investors “do not appreciate the important role” LayerZero plays in cross-chain messaging. Valente wrote that messaging protocols have become “critical infrastructure” as app-specific chains and rollups have multiplied.
