BitGo launches EU custody platform ahead of MiCA deadline

BitGo launched BitGo Europe, a crypto-as-a-service platform offering regulated custody, programmatic KYC and SEPA euro payments to help firms meet the EU MiCA July 1 deadline.

BitGo launched BitGo Europe, a crypto-as-a-service platform that offers regulated custody, programmatic KYC and euro payments over SEPA to help exchanges and fintech firms comply with the European Union’s Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation (MiCA). The company received authorization from Germany’s Federal Financial Supervisory Authority (BaFin) in May 2025 and said the platform is aimed at firms seeking MiCA approval.

The platform connects customers to custody, trading, onboarding and wallet systems through application programming interfaces (APIs), allowing firms to use external compliance infrastructure rather than build full stacks in-house. BitGo positioned the service for exchanges and financial technology companies that need to maintain customer-facing services while pursuing or renewing EU authorizations.

BitGo Europe includes automated identity checks, transaction controls, settlement support for listed digital assets and euro payments via Single Euro Payments Area rails in eligible regions. The company described these features as supporting fiat on- and off-ramps within a regulated environment and enabling programmatic control over customer flows and settlements.

The launch comes ahead of MiCA’s July 1 authorization deadline, after which service providers must hold EU authorization to operate across member states. Reports have emerged that Greek regulators may reject a major exchange’s MiCA application, creating uncertainty for at least one large market participant. BitGo declined to specify whether its infrastructure could allow a firm that lost a license to continue operating in the EU and did not provide further comment when asked for clarification.

National transitions are already in effect in some states. Lithuania ended a transition period for legacy virtual asset service providers on Dec. 31, 2025. Poland’s implementation remains unresolved, leaving firms that previously relied on national approvals uncertain about their status under the EU-wide framework.

Mike Belshe, BitGo’s chief executive, wrote in a statement that the company can “help keep you moving safely and compliantly” as firms work to meet MiCA standards while serving customers.
