Bitcoin price climbs as Trump eyes moves in Colombia and Mexico

Bitcoin price nears $93K as Trump weighs action on Colombia and Mexico

Bitcoin approached $93,000 after President Donald Trump raised the prospect of U.S. action in Colombia and warned measures may be needed in Mexico following a weekend operation in Venezuela.

Bitcoin climbed toward $93,000 on Monday after President Donald Trump raised the possibility of a U.S. operation in Colombia and warned that action may be needed in Mexico.

In remarks Sunday, Trump criticized Colombia over cocaine trafficking, calling the country “very sick” and asserting it is “run by a sick man, who likes making cocaine and selling it to the United States.”

Asked about a potential U.S. military operation focused on Colombia, he responded: “It sounds good to me.” On Mexico, he warned that “something is going to have to be done” after noting that President Claudia Sheinbaum had declined to provide help to tackle cartels.

Over the weekend, Venezuelan leader Nicolás Maduro was captured during an operation in the country. Trump also addressed Cuba, an ally of Venezuela. He described it as a failing state “ready to fall” as Venezuelan oil supplies are cut and indicated U.S. officials are watching developments.

He reiterated interest in Greenland, calling the territory important to U.S. national security and defense. Officials in Denmark and Norway have maintained the island is not for sale and urged Washington to stop issuing threats.

As we covered previously, U.S. forces detained Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro on January 3, 2026, and transported him to New York to face U.S. charges, with President Donald Trump saying the United States would “run” Venezuela until conditions allowed a transition.
