Bitcoin Insurer Meanwhile Raises $37.5M From Existing Backers

Bitcoin life insurer Meanwhile raised $37.5 million from existing investors, bringing total funding for the Bermuda-based company, backed by Sam Altman, above $180 million.

Bitcoin life insurer Meanwhile has raised $37.5 million from existing investors, bringing total funding for the Bermuda-based company to more than $180 million.

Bain Capital Crypto led the round, with participation from Haun Ventures, Framework Ventures, Pantera Capital, Apollo, Northwestern Mutual Future Ventures and Morgan Creek Digital, Meanwhile said in a statement Thursday.

The company attributed the funding to increased demand for its Bitcoin life insurance policies in Asia, Europe and the Middle East. It said wealthy Bitcoin holders are seeking regulated ways to transfer their assets to heirs.

“Wealthy families around the world already hold Bitcoin. What they haven’t had is a regulated way to pass it on,” Meanwhile co-founder and CEO Zac Townsend said. “Brokers came to us because their clients kept asking. This round lets us keep up with them.”

Meanwhile launched BTC Life 1-Pay in early 2026. The single-premium whole-life policy is for high-net-worth clients outside the United States. It followed BTC 10-Pay, a policy designed for U.S. taxpayers.

Individuals, trusts and companies can own the policies, according to Meanwhile. The ownership options allow the products to be used in estate and succession planning.

Meanwhile reported that its net long-term underwriting income has already exceeded the total recorded in 2025 and is expected to more than double in 2026. The company did not disclose the figures.

Meanwhile is licensed to operate entirely in Bitcoin and focuses on life insurance products denominated in the cryptocurrency. Its investors include Sam Altman, the CEO of OpenAI, venture capital firms and financial-sector companies.
