Binance-owned CoinMarketCap acquires Coinglass

CoinMarketCap, owned by Binance, has acquired Coinglass, a provider of derivatives and liquidation analytics. The companies announced the deal this week but did not disclose the price or a closing date.

Coinglass supplies real-time derivatives data such as open interest, funding rates, liquidation heatmaps and exchange-by-exchange derivatives metrics used by traders to monitor leverage and market pressure. CoinMarketCap aggregates spot prices, market capitalizations and volume across exchanges and offers market indicators and developer APIs.

Binance purchased CoinMarketCap in 2020. According to the announcements, CoinMarketCap will add Coinglass’s derivatives metrics and trader-facing tools to its existing market data offerings. The firms did not provide a timeline for technical integration or product rollouts.

Accuracy and comparability of crypto market data remain a focus of industry discussion. Participants and policymakers have raised concerns about inflated volume figures, wash trading and inconsistent reporting standards across exchanges. Data providers have updated ranking methodologies and added liquidity and confidence metrics in response.

Industry participants and regulators have called for standardized reporting and third-party verification to improve transparency and support market surveillance. Neither CoinMarketCap nor Coinglass disclosed details on staffing changes, data-sharing arrangements with third parties or how independent data methodologies will be maintained under shared ownership.
