Binance flags four tokens with Monitoring Tag
On Sept. 4 Binance applied its Monitoring Tag to AVA, GNS, SCR and TOWNS, placing them under review; all four tokens fell in price on the exchange after the notice.
Binance placed the Monitoring Tag on AVA (Ava Labs), GNS (Gains Network), SCR (Scroll) and TOWNS (Towns Protocol) on Sept. 4, moving the tokens into closer review. The announcement coincided with immediate price declines for all four assets on Binance.
The Monitoring Tag identifies listings the exchange views as more volatile or higher risk than its broader roster. Tagged assets are subject to regular reassessment and can be removed from spot trading if they no longer meet Binance’s listing criteria. The exchange evaluates factors including team commitment, development activity, trading volume, liquidity, network stability and changes to tokenomics during reviews.
Price moves on the exchange were swift. Towns Protocol dropped about 9.02% in the minutes after the tag was applied. Scroll traded near $0.0214 and was down roughly 7.5% with about $1.6 million in Binance trading volume at that time. AVA fell about 4.9%. Gains Network eased some losses and was down roughly 0.4% at press time.
Binance noted that services tied to the four tokens outside of spot listings were not affected by the tag. The label does not automatically trigger removal from the platform, but tagged tokens have faced repeat reviews.
The exchange has previously removed assets that first received the Monitoring Tag. Last month Binance delisted Across Protocol (ACX), Hashflow (HFT), PIVX, Vulcan Forged PYR (PYR), Vanar (VANRY) and Viction (VIC) after monitoring. On Sept. 3 Binance removed ICON (ICX), Secret (SCRT) and Storj (STORJ) from spot trading; ICX had been tagged on Aug. 11.
Binance wrote in a notice: “Keep in mind that tokens with the Monitoring Tag are at risk of no longer meeting our listing criteria and being delisted from the platform.” The exchange’s past actions show that tagged assets are subject to more frequent review and potential delisting.
