Arizona law returns $171K to 35 crypto ATM scam victims

Since Sept. 26, 2025, Arizona’s crypto ATM law has secured $171,332 in refunds for 35 victims who reported fraud to kiosk operators and law enforcement within 30 days.

The Arizona Attorney General’s Office reported that 35 people have recovered $171,332 in full refunds since House Bill 2387 took effect on Sept. 26, 2025. Each victim notified both a kiosk operator and law enforcement within 30 days of the transaction.

Under House Bill 2387, operators of crypto kiosks in Arizona must refund eligible new customers for transactions made after they were fraudulently induced. Refunds cover the purchase amount and any transaction fees charged at the kiosks.

To qualify, a victim must contact the kiosk operator and the attorney general or another law enforcement agency within 30 days and provide an official law enforcement report that determines the purchase was induced by fraud.

The law defines a new customer as someone who has used a given operator for fewer than 10 days. It caps daily transactions for new customers at $2,000; existing customers have a $10,500 daily cap.

The attorney general’s office reported the refunds averaged about $4,900 per person and that staff assisted victims in obtaining full reimbursements.

Kris Mayes urged residents who suspect they have been targeted by crypto ATM scams to report the incident promptly to avoid missing the 30-day deadline. “My office is happy to help any victim of crypto ATM fraud receive a refund they are entitled to under Arizona law.”

Operators must cooperate with law enforcement to verify claims and process reimbursements under the statute, the attorney general’s office noted.
