Apple briefly removed Telegram from the App Store after a review found content that violated its child sexual abuse material policies. The removal affected the app’s iOS distribution while Apple completed its review.
Apple confirmed Telegram was restored to the App Store after the flagged content was removed and the account responsible was blocked.
The report of the App Store action coincided with a short-lived market move for the Telegram-linked token Gram. Price data show Gram fell about 6.4% from $1.41 to $1.32 before recovering to roughly $1.40.
Telegram posted on X: “Reports of my demise are greatly exaggerated,” followed by an apple emoji.
Apple did not provide details on how the content was discovered or how many users were affected beyond confirming the removal and the account block.
Telegram is facing separate legal pressure in multiple countries. Russian authorities have pursued a terrorism-related charge against founder Pavel Durov over the platform’s handling of alleged extremist material, and Australia’s eSafety Commissioner has launched court proceedings alleging failures to remove terrorism-related content.
Apple’s App Store rules prohibit child sexual abuse material and require apps to remove violating content to remain available on iOS.
The app was reinstated after the flagged material was removed and the posting account banned.
