Anthropic filed with the FEC to create AnthroPAC, an employee-funded PAC, while contesting a Pentagon supply-chain risk label.

Anthropic filed a statement of organization with the Federal Election Commission on Friday to set up AnthroPAC, an employee-funded political action committee. The committee is structured as a separate segregated fund connected to Anthropic and registered as a lobbyist-affiliated PAC. The PAC will collect voluntary contributions from eligible employees and is subject to federal contribution limits and public disclosure requirements.

Company materials indicate the PAC is expected to support candidates from both major parties.

Anthropic is contesting a Defense Department designation that identified the company as a supply-chain risk in February, after the firm opposed use of its AI in fully autonomous weapons and mass surveillance. Court papers from Anthropic characterize the designation as retaliation against a protected viewpoint. A federal judge in California has temporarily blocked the designation and paused broader restrictions while the case proceeds.

Public disclosures list a $20 million contribution to Public First Action, a group focused on advancing AI safety policy. Company materials outline policy priorities including safety standards, transparency and safeguards for high-risk applications.

Separately, Google is preparing to support construction financing for a multibillion-dollar data center in Texas that is leased to Anthropic and operated by Nexus Data Centers. The initial phase could exceed $5 billion, with construction loans from Google and additional bank financing under consideration.

The Defense Department’s supply-chain risk designations can affect procurement and contracting. The court order keeps existing arrangements in place while the litigation continues.

The Texas facility would add compute capacity for training and running large AI models. Anthropic is expanding access through a lease with a dedicated operator rather than building and owning the site outright.
