Altcoin net spot outflows hit $266B; futures volume surges

Analyst IT Tech reported the one‑year cumulative buy‑sell difference for altcoins fell to -$266 billion on June 16; altcoins made up 51% of Binance futures volume that day.

On June 16 analyst IT Tech reported the one-year cumulative buy-sell difference for altcoins excluding Bitcoin and Ether fell to -$266 billion, the lowest reading since the metric began tracking spot demand in 2020.

CryptoQuant data cited by the analyst show net spot outflows from altcoin holdings on centralized exchanges have exceeded net purchases over the past year.

On the same day altcoins accounted for 51% of Binance’s daily futures volume, compared with 28.85% for Bitcoin and 20.20% for Ether. Altcoins led futures trading for most of 2025 except for a brief period in February.

Market analyst MorenoDV noted exchange stablecoin balances have been steady since December 2024. The exchange supply ratio for ERC-20 stablecoins has ranged between 0.40 and 0.46, indicating about 40% to 46% of circulating ERC-20 stablecoins remained on exchanges for more than a year. Binance held roughly 25% to 30% of total stablecoin supply during that period, accounting for over half of exchange-held stablecoin reserves.

CryptoQuant figures show other exchange products attracted large volumes. Metals futures trading peaked near $500 billion in March 2026 as gold and silver reached record prices. Pre-IPO perpetual trading rose from about $2 million in March to $715 million in May and $2 billion in June. Binance processed roughly $10.3 billion in pre-IPO perpetual volume in June and held about 83% of that segment.

Bitcoin traded in a range near $60,000 to $120,000 during the period, a span exceeding 50% moves. The one-year cumulative buy-sell metric began in 2020 and the data described above cover exchange flows and product volumes through June 16, 2026.
