Alchemy, Visa Launch Agentcard to Let AI Agents Pay
Alchemy and Visa released Agentcard with Visa Intelligent Commerce to let AI agents make online purchases with tokenized Visa payments, dedicated credentials, spend controls and crypto support.
Alchemy and Visa launched Agentcard with Visa Intelligent Commerce, a product that lets AI agents make online purchases using tokenized Visa payments, dedicated credentials and built-in spend controls. The platform provisions a Visa payment token, a unique email address at agentcard.email, a phone number and a crypto wallet for each agent.
Agents built on models from providers including OpenAI and Anthropic can use Agentcard to book travel, order groceries or renew subscriptions without a user completing checkout. Alchemy says developers can set up Agentcard through a single API in under a minute.
Payment features include default tokenized card payments, merchant-category restrictions, per-transaction limits and custom budgets that can be set at agent creation or adjusted in real time. The system routes transactions to the most appropriate payment rail and can fall back to single-use tokens where agent-native rails are unavailable, upgrading automatically as merchant and network support grows.
Nikil Viswanathan, Alchemy’s co-founder and CEO, wrote that AI agents represent a new class of digital economic actors and need access to the global economy. “The internet created online businesses. Mobile created the app economy. AI agents are next, and they need to be able to access the global economy,” he wrote.
Tanner Riche, Visa’s vice president of growth products and partnerships, described Visa Intelligent Commerce as infrastructure that gives agents trusted identity and reliable ways to transact as they take on a larger role in commerce.
Other firms are building agent payment infrastructure. Mastercard introduced Agent Pay for Machines for high-volume transactions between AI systems, and MetaMask launched Agent Wallet to give bots access to the Ethereum ecosystem with transaction protections. Alchemy presents Agentcard as a product that links payments, identity and crypto as platforms add agent-native capabilities.
Agentcard is designed so agents can complete sign-ups and receive verification messages while keeping control in users’ hands through credentialing and spend limits. The product supports card-based tokens and emerging payment protocols, including crypto where merchants accept it.
