AI Displaces 126,510 U.S. Jobs, Alliance Reports

Alliance for Secure AI Action reports 126,510 U.S. jobs displaced by AI as of June 10, 2026. Sen. Bernie Sanders proposes public 50% stake in key AI firms.

The Alliance for Secure AI Action reported that artificial intelligence had displaced 126,510 U.S. jobs as of June 10, 2026. The group’s jobloss.ai portal has tracked reports since January 2025 and counted those positions across 16 industries based on 49 documented cases. The total rose by nearly 30,000 since March.

The alliance compiles company announcements, layoff notices, industry reports and other public records to identify confirmed cases where roles were eliminated or described as obsolete after AI adoption. The group says the figure is a compilation of documented cases and not a formal government count.

The alliance noted the rise reflects increased use of automation and AI tools in areas such as customer service, administrative roles and content production.

Brendan Steinhauser, chief executive of the Alliance for Secure AI Action, wrote on social media that concentrated wealth tied to AI could threaten social stability and urged the industry to broaden who benefits. He wrote, “We will not have a stable society if massive amounts of wealth are created and then concentrated in the hands of a small, technocratic elite that looks very much like an oligarchy,” and added companies should “make sure the American people benefit from the profits they are amassing.”

A February survey found four in ten U.S. adults expect AI to harm society over the next 20 years.

Sen. Bernie Sanders introduced the American AI Sovereign Wealth Fund Act, which would transfer 50% ownership of certain U.S.-based AI companies to a public fund. Sanders criticized Congress for moving too slowly to regulate or otherwise respond to the economic and social effects of AI adoption.

The alliance and Sanders presented their actions as responses to employers deploying AI to reduce staffing. The alliance plans to continue updating the jobloss.ai portal as new reports appear and has called for policy measures to address worker displacement and how AI-generated profits are shared.
