2012 Bitcoin Wallet Reactivates 212 BTC After 14 Years

A bitcoin address created Aug. 10, 2012 moved 212 BTC-about $13.72 million-on Aug. 18, 2026, consolidating the coins into a Bech32 address after more than 14 years inactive.

On Aug. 18, 2026, a bitcoin address created on Aug. 10, 2012 transferred 212 BTC to a single Bech32 address. At the time of the transaction bitcoin traded near $64,761 per coin, valuing the holding at about $13.72 million.

Blockchain records show the coins left a legacy P2PKH (Pay-to-Public-Key-Hash) wallet first used in 2012, moved in several smaller batches and arrived consolidated in the new Bech32 address. Parsing tools flagged the activity and the consolidated address is unflagged in major explorers.

No on-chain intelligence provider has linked the receiving address to a known exchange, service or individual. Until the funds are spent again or deposited on a platform that can be associated with an identity, the owner of the original 2012 wallet remains unidentified.

When the wallet was created a single bitcoin was worth about $11.07, placing the original stash’s 2012 value at roughly $2,346. At recent prices the holding represents an increase of about 584,725%.

Multiple long-dormant bitcoin wallets have moved coins in August. Earlier in the month a firmware security breach affecting Coldcard hardware wallets resulted in the theft of nearly 2,000 BTC from affected users. The month has also seen increased consolidation and upgrades to newer address formats by some holders.

Bech32 addresses use native SegWit rules and are supported by modern wallets to lower fees and improve signature efficiency. P2PKH was the common legacy format in 2012. The change in address format did not add identifying information about the holder.

The transaction is visible on public explorers and will remain unlinked unless the coins move again or are deposited to a service that can be associated with an identity.
