NEAR cuts max inflation to 2.5%, adds validator support
NEAR Foundation announced on October 21, 2025, that it backs a protocol upgrade to cut the network's maximum annual token inflation from 5% to 2.5%. The change requires 80% of staked, block-producing validators to run the new binary before taking effect. Ethereum validator exit queue may grow to 1.6M ETH
The Ethereum validator exit queue could soon jump to 1.63M ETH, according to ValidatorQueue. The trigger was Kiln Finance’s announcement that it is beginning an “orderly exit” of all its validators following an incident involving its partner SwissBorg. 
Ripple and University of Toronto Team Up for Crypto Education
The University of Toronto, Canada's largest higher education institution by enrollment, is partnering with Ripple to establish an independent XRP ledger validator that will primarily process payments, marking a significant step in fostering the upcoming wave of the crypto industry. 
Polygon experiences finalization outage due to node bug
On Sept. 10, the Polygon blockchain ran into transaction finalization issues due to a bug in the Bor and Erigon software clients used to run nodes. The incident affected certain RPC services and validator synchronization, but the network never stopped and continued producing blocks.

Ethereum Mulls Significant Boost to Validator Balance Cap
Ethereum's backbone developers are contemplating a substantial expansion of the validator balance ceiling, which currently stands at 32 Ether (ETH). The new proposed limit, if approved, would allow a maximum of 2,048 Ether per validator, a significant increase aimed to bolster efficiency and ease the process of staking. Temporary Transaction Halt on Ethereum Mainnet
Ethereum's mainnet experienced a temporary halt in transaction finalizations but resumed after a brief 25-minute pause. This incident is reminiscent of a similar event on March 15 when the Goerli testnet version of Ethereum's "Shapella" upgrade faced delays due to low validator participation rates. However, the upgrade was successfully executed on the mainnet on April 12. 
The collaboration aims to promote the development of Web3 apps on the Tezos blockchain. Google Cloud credits and mentorship are available to startups from the Tezos incubator.
