Trump sues NYT for $15 billion over crypto business defamation

Donald Trump filed a $15 billion lawsuit against The New York Times, accusing the publication of defamation and publishing materials that allegedly harmed his reputation, business, and related cryptocurrency projects.
In his lawsuit, Donald Trump claims that the NYT has become a “mouthpiece” for the radical wing of the Democratic Party and knowingly distorted the facts about him, his family, business, and political movement. He also argues that the newspaper's front-page endorsement of Democratic candidate Kamala Harris amounts to the "largest illegal Campaign contribution, EVER."
Trump also claims that coverage by The New York Times and other media outlets was politically motivated. According to him, the reporting favored the Democratic Party, contained accusations against him and his supporters, and sought to undermine trust in his business, including cryptocurrency projects. Trump accuses the NYT and other "pro-Democratic" media of defamation, manipulation, using falsifications, and a long-term intention to tarnish his name.
The tokens TRUMP, MELANIA, DJT, and WLFI, promoted with images of the Trump family members, attracted special attention from the American press and the crypto community. Many of these projects disappointed investors: prices spiked on launch amid heavy hype but quickly collapsed. Some analysts flagged signs of a pump & dump scheme, where organizers or large holders quickly sell tokens at an inflated price, leaving retail investors with losses.
With the launch of WLFI, TRUMP, and other related tokens, many holders faced significant losses. On crypto forums, users discussed cases where wallets with large volumes of tokens sold off immediately after listing, triggering sharp price drops and frustration among private investors. Critics accused the projects of manipulation and lack of transparency.
Despite criticism and media warnings about such risks, Trump rejects these assessments and is seeking compensation from The New York Times for allegedly harming his reputation and business interests. The lawsuit was filed in Florida, a key base of Republican support.
