🌋 Pump.Fun Shuts Down Live Streaming After Trash Stream Surge

posted  26 Nov 2024
The Solana-powered memecoin platform Pump.Fun attracted massive attention in November 2024 through its live streaming tool. However, the feature’s misuse triggered widespread criticism, forcing a suspension.

Pump.Fun’s streaming feature was officially suspended on November 25, according to an announcement from the platform’s team.
This suspension comes just three and a half months after the feature’s introduction—but what triggered such a drastic move?

Streaming initially fostered lighthearted engagement. Users performed memecoin-inspired dances, chatted live, or enjoyed gaming sessions.

Recently, however, the platform saw a disturbing trend emerge. Some streamers used the feature to issue chilling threats—targeting others, pets, or even themselves—to manipulate audiences into investing in their tokens.

One shocking case involved the ROVER token creator threatening to shoot their dog if the memecoin didn’t achieve an $11 million market cap. In another incident, a streamer openly discussed taking their own life. There were also broadcasts rife with violent, aggressive, and inappropriate sexual content.

The co-founder of Pump.Fun responded by underscoring the necessity for strict moderation and the permanent suspension of these harmful streams. He also reiterated the availability of NSFW filters to block offensive material.
The following morning, Pump.Fun took decisive action, announcing the suspension of its live streaming feature.
