1X Technologies introduced its first consumer humanoid robot, NEO, which the company envisions as a new member of the family. It can be purchased for $20,000 or rented for $499 per month.
Weighing 30 kg and standing 168 cm tall, NEO can handle basic household tasks - folding clothes, opening doors, turning on lights, and even helping elderly people. It connects via Wi-Fi and 5G, responds to the command “Hey NEO,” and can carry up to 25 kg.
Founder Bernt Øivind Børnich said NEO represents the first step toward an era of home assistants that learn directly from humans. But the internet greeted the launch not with excitement, but with sarcasm.

On X, the robot quickly became the center of a meme storm. Users compared NEO to horror movie characters and household appliances. The GN Crypto team reviewed dozens of posts and compiled the most viral ones.

A tweet from journalist Trung Phan, viewed more than 1.5 million times, jokes that the robot reminds its owner about overdue payments while menacingly holding a pillow.
A post from Autism Capital, with over 33,000 views, imagines NEO speaking to someone who just woke up from a simulation - a nod to the classic “Wake up, Neo” meme about virtual reality.
User ram, whose tweet drew 9.7K views, joked about crypto traders making risky moves on new low-liquidity pairs - only now it’s the robot doing the trading.
User Mat’s post, with 5.3K views, quipped that NEO’s image is “the last thing you see if you miss a payment on your AI assistant subscription.”
Developer joseph.eth’s tweet, seen 3.4K times, parodied a crime movie scene where the robot wakes its owner with bad news about a police raid. The meme mocks the idea of overly human-like home robots acting like partners in crime.
Despite the online mockery, demand for NEO will likely exceed expectations. The first U.S. deliveries are set for 2026, with international releases planned for 2027.

The company, previously known for its industrial semi-humanoids, is now shifting toward the consumer market. In time, NEO is expected to cook, clean, and even listen when you need someone to talk to.

Still, skepticism remains. As one user put it, “If it learns to listen, it’ll cost as much as a therapist.” Time will tell.
