Apple briefly tops $4 trillion on iPhone 17 demand

Apple briefly hit a $4T valuation Tuesday, lifted by a 14% rise in iPhone 17 sales in the first 43 days in the U.S. and China, before shares eased lower.
Apple’s market value crossed $4 trillion in early U.S. trading Tuesday before slipping back, supported by strong early demand for the iPhone 17 lineup.
Counterpoint Research data show iPhone unit sales rose 14% year over year in the first 43 days in the U.S. and China, with the base iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Pro drawing the most interest. The new iPhone Air is slightly ahead of the iPhone Plus, which it replaced.
Recent checks point to cooling momentum. In an Oct. 19 note, Jefferies analyst Edison Lee wrote that delivery times fell across most markets week over week: “Our tracking of six major markets shows that delivery lead time continues to fall vs last week in most markets and most models.”
Lead times for iPhone 17 Pro were at zero in the U.S. and several other markets, with shorter waits in China. For iPhone 17 Pro Max, U.S. waits narrowed while Germany and the U.K. remained at zero.
Apple is the third public company to touch the $4 trillion mark this year, following Nvidia and Microsoft. Nvidia first surpassed the threshold in July and is now valued around $4.7 trillion. Microsoft later returned to roughly $4.1 trillion on Tuesday after an update to OpenAI’s structure valued its 27% stake at about $135 billion.
Apple shares are up 28% over the past six months. The iPhone remains the company’s largest business, generating $201.2 billion of Apple’s $391 billion in fiscal 2024 revenue. Services brought in $96.2 billion last year. Apple will report new results on Thursday.
As GNcrypto covered previously, the iPhone 17 introduced Memory Integrity Enforcement, a hardware-based protection paired with enhanced memory tagging that checks memory use in real time. Apple’s security team has attributed many critical vulnerabilities to memory corruption, and the new system is designed to make exploits such as out‑of‑bounds writes and use‑after‑free harder to execute.
